Oakland Housing Authority

Everyone wants to be successful and not have to worry about how they're going to pay the mortgage on their Mississauga, Ontario homes but the fact of the matter is that as long as there's capitalism there are going to be people who struggle with money. In many cities, such as Oakland, California, there are options available to low income people in difficult housing situations. If you find yourself in such a pickle after your move to Oakland, seek help from the Oakland Housing Authority.

The Oakland Housing Authority was established in 1938 to help low income residents find affordable housing. Since then the authority has branched out to include helping these low income residents to become financially self-sufficient and developing affordable housing for low income residents. Similar programs are available for Toronto condominiums and New York apartment and living space all over North America, Europe, and Australia.

The Oakland Housing Authority not only directs low income persons to Oakland dwellings they can afford better than their old real estate in Riverdale, Toronto, but actually owns and manages the housing so that you don't have to worry about your landlord changing terms as soon as the OHA goes away. They own over 3,000 units of housing including several large developments. Some of this housing is specifically reserved for seniors or families.

The housing units are divided into two categories: modernized, and not modernized. As you would expect, the modernized housing is more expensive, but still nowhere near the level of lofts for sale Toronto. If you're planning your budget, here are the typical rents charged in OHA owned housing. For modern units, prices range from $609 per month for a bachelor's apartment to $1,406 per month for a 5 bedroom apartment. For non-modernized units, prices range from $487 per month for a bachelor to $1,125 per month for a 5 bedroom. There's also a special section of housing called Section 8, whereby their rents are set at 30% to 40% of the tenant's income, whatever it happens to be.

How can you qualify for such fantastically low rents? Well, anyone who can afford Red Hook real estate is automatically out. This program is for the neediest people only. The maximum income level to participate in Oakland Housing Authority programs is 80% of the Oakland area median (that's the middle value, not the average) income. For one person, that's about $46,000 per year. To qualify for Section 8, the most you can earn is 50% of the median Oakland income ($31,250 for one person).
