Education Alternatives in Oakland California

The 137 public schools in Oakland, California operate under the Oakland Unified School District. This district contains 70 elementary schools, 36 middle schools, and 31 high schools. These include ACORN Woodland Elementary, Montera Middle School, and Oakland High School.

Some of the Private schools perform much better than the city-wide average. In 2005, the results of the STAR testing showed that over half of the students at Hillcrest Elementary School performed at the “advanced” level in the test’s English portion, and students at Lincoln Elementary School performed at the “advanced” level in the test’s Math portion.
